Lu Shaoyou is a scholar traveling to take the imperial examinations, carrying a folding fan and a short sword. On the road, bandits attack him, forcing him to draw his sword in self-defense and reveal an extraordinary talent for swordsmanship, which his late father taught him. Afterward, he becomes embroiled in the conflicts of the martial world. Well-read in poetry and literature, he often uses his wit to defuse crises and his short sword to punish evildoers. He befriends all kinds of heroes as he continues toward the examinations and champions justice along the way. In the end, he not only earns an official degree but also becomes a scholar-hero renowned for both literary talent and martial skill.
