A Thousand Roads Toward the Light

Ten years in prison took away his youth, but couldn’t extinguish the fire in his eyes.

When Zhao Chengyu walked out of prison, he had only three hundred yuan in his pocket, but his heart still held a decade-old hatred. He had once been a street thug, framed by the crime boss Lao Hei and made to take the blame for a murder. Even the woman he loved had been silenced.

During his ten years behind bars, he apprenticed himself to “Ghost Hand Zhang,” mastering astonishingly skillful tricks and seeing through the greed and human nature laid bare at the gambling table.

After his release, he reinvented himself as a nouveau riche gambler and brought his skills into Lao Hei’s criminal empire. From casinos in urban villages to glittering penthouse suites, he advanced with care, turning card games into knives and human nature into bait, determined to bring his enemy down.

But on the road to revenge, he stumbled upon an even bigger secret: Li Sisi, daughter of the victim in the murder case, had infiltrated the enemy’s circle and was waiting for her own chance to take revenge.

One had a repertoire of gambling tricks, the other concealed murderous intent. From mutual suspicion to joining forces, they searched for irrefutable evidence of Lao Hei’s crimes amid gambling games rife with danger. When the ledger documenting countless crimes finally came to light, they had to fend off the criminal gang’s pursuit and stake everything at the table of human nature, gambling on long-overdue justice for themselves and the dead.

When his revenge was finally complete, he didn’t wallow in victory. Instead, he turned toward the sunlight, using the very skills he had once used for revenge to expose casino scams and pull more people back from the abyss.

This is a road from darkness to light. Every step is soaked in blood and tears, but dawn will come at last.
