[Brain storage: One book from the start, and the entire bestiary unlocked!]
The Old Era ends, and the Age of Mutation begins.
Countless strange beasts pour through rifts in the void, pushing human civilization to the brink.
Fortunately, everyone can awaken an ability at eighteen. Some see their arms mutate into titanium-alloy blades, others develop electromagnetic cannons along their spines, and a rare few chosen ones gain an innate divine weapon.
At the very top of the power rankings stand the world’s only ten Complete Beast Shifters: China’s Divine Dragon, the Norse World Serpent, Egypt’s Sun Lion, and more.
On the day Lin Chen awakens, the testing device spits out a shocking trash-tier rating:
“Mutation of the original body: the paper book Classic of Mountains and Seas?”
The whole room bursts into laughter. “Can that thing crush an ant, or scare a beast to tears?”
Even the examiner shakes his head. “Go to the logistics department and get a copy of the Bestiary to use as a reference manual.”
Then the first S-rank Void Mirage Beast tears through the city walls.
As everyone despairs, the ancient book in Lin Chen’s hands suddenly turns a page:
“Western Mountains, Volume One: Gu Diao. It resembles an eagle with a horn and sounds like a baby. It eats people.”
Amid a flood of golden light, he transforms into a colossal horned eagle, rips through the sky, and pierces the Mirage Beast’s core with his talons!
While the other nine beast shifters defend their respective territories, Lin Chen has already unlocked Bi Fang’s sky-burning flames, the Torch Dragon’s power to bring day and night, and Xiang Liu’s poison that can engulf a thousand miles.
The world is stunned. “Wasn’t his mutation supposed to be a book? How can he turn into monsters from the Classic of Mountains and Seas?!”
Later, the rifts in the void rupture completely, and the Beast God descends upon Earth.
The nine beast shifters are utterly defeated, and the Western representatives fall to their knees, begging China’s Divine Dragon to intervene.
But Lin Chen strides through the air and flips open his book with a smile.
“What’s the rush? I’ve only reached the first volume.”
“Next, please enjoy the full family portrait from the Great Wilderness edition of the Classic of Mountains and Seas.”
