The Tale of the Four Beauties of Jinling follows four exceptionally gifted women: Qingyue, a graceful dancer and tea connoisseur; Yuzhuan, a culinary genius; Yunshang, equally gifted at poetry and painting; and Yunhua, whose music captivates Jinling. Together, they run the bustling Drunken Moon House, but each suffers a romantic tragedy: betrayal and broken promises, a husband who abandons his family, and a marriage scam designed to swindle her out of her money. As the sisters stand together through their hardships, their restaurant is framed and forced to close. Resolute, the four travel to the capital. Though they struggle at first, they seize opportunities in the midst of crisis with their intelligence and talents. Before long, they turn their former rival, Lu Mingyuan, a leading figure in the capital’s guilds, into an ally, and together they make the Splendid Glory House flourish and win fame throughout the capital. They achieve great success in business and find true love amid the bustle of life: Qingyue meets an upright official, Yuzhuan finds a partner in an easygoing imperial merchant, Yunshang meets a kindred-spirited scholar, and Yunhua pledges herself to Lu Mingyuan. In the end, all four sisters receive imperial permission to marry, and as the Splendid Glory House reaches its peak, they each find a happy union. Their splendid lives bear witness to the strength women find in supporting one another and growing into their own.
