I Return to Dust with a Million Lost Souls

A dual narrative weaves the tragic final song of Bai Qi, a peerless killer.

The main storyline follows his final journey from Xianyang to Duyou after he is sentenced to death. It is a suffocating, despairing psychological execution.

The parallel story unfolds through the stream of consciousness that floods his mind as he nears death, jumping without order between the defining moments of his life: the ruthless decision at the Battle of Changping, a moment of hesitation during the flooding of Yan and Ying, the youthful confidence of his first battlefield, and his political struggles with the ruler and Fan Ju. In the end, the two narratives converge at Duyou. As the snow of the present buries the last glimmer of life, fragments of memory piece together the complete portrait of a man swept along by his era and fate, both a god of war and an ordinary human being.
