Rebuilding the Great Ming Through Lu Xiangsheng

Whenever I read the history of the Ming and reach the Chongzhen era, I cannot help closing the book with a sigh. If only there had been a great leader like Lord Lu Xiangsheng, how could the realm have been allowed to fall? He was gifted in both letters and arms, unmatched in loyalty and courage, truly a pillar holding up the heavens. If a modern soul were to inhabit his body, bringing the wisdom of foreknowledge and knowledge of the wider world, he could use thunderous measures to reform the military and government, gather the realm's finest troops, and root out age-old ills. He could also open maritime trade to fill the treasury, bring in Western learning to strengthen firearms, suppress the rebels, and repel the eastern invaders. Then Lord Lu might not only escape his tragic fate, but also turn the tide and rebuild the Ming, ushering in a new age of revival beneath the sun and moon!
