Record of the Azure Phoenix Carrying a Pearl

Su Wantang, heir to a modern family of ancient martial arts, is persecuted by her cousin and falls off a cliff, only to be reborn as the daughter of a mountain farmer in the Great Ning Dynasty. At the brink of despair, the green snake birthmark on her wrist awakens with searing heat, opening a mysterious Azure Luan Space. Within it lies a spirit field where rare medicinal herbs can be grown, a snake cave harboring an ancient legacy, and a spirit spring that can cleanse her marrow and meridians.

In this life, she intends to take up her sword and exact revenge. But after saving an old hunter who fears snakes and healing the emotional wounds of an orphan girl named A Xiu, she gradually understands the true meaning of the space: kind thoughts nourish good roots, and the shed skin of a green-marked snake is proof of merit. She grows spirit ginseng to dispel miasma among the people, has groups of snakes protect mountain villages, and meets Lin Yan, an heir to the art of snake medicine, with whom she investigates the causes and effects surrounding the Azure Luan Snake Clan.

From using snake venom to fight back against villains to sacrificing her own shed skin to save all living beings; from being trapped by the grudges of her past life to passing on the way of medicine by turning resentment into kindness, Su Wantang finally comprehends the path of renewal through shedding her skin. With Confucian benevolence, she grows medicine to help the world; with Buddhist compassion, she frees others from obsession; and with Daoist naturalness, she protects the mountains and maintains balance.

This is a journey of transformation from revenge to redemption. The Azure Luan carries a pearl in its beak, a symbol of the goodness in the human world; the snake's scales shine with the light of the heart-lamps of all living beings.
