Memory Modifier

Zhao Yang was one of the industry’s top memory editors, using professional techniques to help people erase past experiences they could not bear to face. One day, he accepted a request from Li Weidong, a financial director: erase the memories of the overseas investments that had cost him everything over the past month. The pay was generous, but the client insisted that everything be wiped clean.

During his assessment, Zhao Yang noticed something strange. Although Li Weidong’s memories were full of pain, their logic was clear, while crucial project details were blurred as if deliberately concealed. It seemed someone had tampered with them. In the end, however, he decided to take the job, planning to overwrite the original memories with a false recollection of a small loss followed by a timely retreat.

The procedure succeeded. Li Weidong forgot the pain of his enormous losses and remembered only a minor setback. His condition improved noticeably. Zhao Yang received a handsome payment, and the balance in his account looked impressive, but he felt none of the joy he had expected. Instead, an inexplicable emptiness lingered in his heart, along with unease about those abnormal memories.
