Who Stands on the Immortal Execution Platform? The Bodhi Tree at Fangcun Mountain's Lingtai

My name is Lu Yuan. I’m an ordinary mortal. After offending the Buddhist sect of the Western Heaven, I was falsely branded a demon and dragged to the Immortal-Slaying Terrace in the Heavenly Court. I’m to be publicly executed in three days, my soul scattered into oblivion. On the day of my execution, the Three Realms trembled, and gods and Buddhas from across the heavens came to watch. The Buddhas of the West spoke endlessly of mercy, claiming my sins were unforgivable. The immortals of the Heavenly Court looked on coldly, treating me like an insect. They were all waiting to laugh at me, to watch the Buddhist sect establish its authority, to see me reduced to dust and ashes. No one knew that I had already lived through a hundred lifetimes. I was once a bodhi tree on Mount Fangcun, shading a lawless monkey from the wind and rain, listening as he drunkenly called me “senior brother.” I was once a storyteller in Guankou, on brotherly terms with an aloof young man with three eyes, shedding tears for his filial quest to split open a mountain and save his mother. I was once a deputy general in Chentang Pass, shielding a lotus-born boy who had cut away his flesh to return it to his mother and his bones to his father, and railing against the injustice of heaven and earth. So when the Ruyi Jingu Bang, which had shaken the Three Realms, pointed at the Buddha seated high above the clouds; When the Three-Pointed, Double-Edged Blade, which had slain demons and monsters, was leveled at the bodhisattva whose mouth overflowed with righteousness; When the Fire-Tipped Spear, which could boil seas and scorch the heavens, turned the entire Immortal-Slaying Terrace into a living hell... Only then did the gods and Buddhas across the heavens finally remember who I was. But by then, would it be too late for you to regret it?
