The Legend of Ao Run of the Western Sea

On a thousand-year thunderstorm night at the Western Sea Dragon Palace, Ao Run, clad in blue-violet scales, hatches from her egg. Unlike the blue-and-gold scales of her kin, her unusual coloring is destined to make her life controversial. As a child, she discovers that her scales can sense changes in the currents. Her mother tells her, "The Ao clan's scales conceal the dragon race's fortune," and teaches her to hide her gift to avoid disaster. As she grows up, she falls in love with Mo Yuan of the Northern Sea Dragon Clan. But differences in their clans' positions and power struggles force them apart. Mo Yuan's departure leaves her heart frozen for a time, and she devotes herself to consolidating power in the Western Sea. As Ao Bing's aunt, she navigates the dragon clan's power struggles, battling the elders' schemes and pressure from the Heavenly Court, while quietly protecting Ao Bing and hoping to keep him far from conflict. After Nezha is born, the dragon clan's crisis deepens. Torn between protecting her nephew, protecting her clan, and staying true to her original convictions, she eventually awakens, revives the dragon clan alliance, and works to bring dragons and humans together in peace. From an innocent young dragon to the guardian of the Western Sea, Ao Run spends her life proving that the color of one's scales is no mark of legitimacy. Protecting others and staying true to one's convictions are the true glory in the dragon bloodline.
