The Faith of the Gods Among Men follows the fantastical adventures and emotional redemption of Ming, a food delivery rider. Caught in a downpour and struggling to complete a delivery, Ming unexpectedly learns that his beloved Xiaowen has died. Grief-stricken, he sets off for his hometown. Along the way, he meets Li, the Gold Star of Venus, who has been banished to the mortal realm, and gets caught up in a conflict over faith between the old gods of the human world and the Buddhist sect. Xiaowen was in fact a descendant of the Qingqiu fox clan whose bloodline had yet to awaken. She was killed by a substitute god created by the Buddhist sect, and only a fragment of her soul remains, protected by a Qingqiu safety pendant.
To reunite Xiaowen's soul and allow her to be reincarnated, Ming takes the pendant and joins Li, the Gold Star of Venus, and Hu, a Qingqiu fox, to fight the ghost soldiers, bring Zhao Xuan, a celestial soldier who sided with the Buddhist sect, to justice, and find the Record of Rebirth to gather Xiaowen's soul. When their first attempt fails, they receive guidance and travel from Luoyang to Guangzhou, Chongqing, and Shenzhen. Along the way, Zhong Kui, the Dragon Prince, the Matchmaker, the Kitchen God, the Earth God, and others lend their help, and the truth behind the Buddhist sect's conspiracy is revealed. Weaving together the struggles of ordinary people and the wonders of immortal encounters, the story follows the search for Xiaowen's soul and the conflict between the old gods and Buddhist faith. Their adventures reveal a three-hundred-year legacy of protection and promises, ultimately leading to a perfect resolution of love and redemption.
