From Unemployed to Gaming Top-Tier Star: Tang Xuan Zhang's Road to Redemption

"From Unemployed Middle-Aged Man to Top-Tier Star of Gaming: Tang Xuanzhang’s Comeback" follows the roller-coaster life of middle-aged engineer Tang Xuanzhang. A Yanjing University graduate, he was once a project director at Hengji Group and a force to be reckoned with in the construction industry. But when the industry hit a downturn in 2023, he plummeted from the heights to rock bottom.

After losing his job, Tang Xuanzhang suffered one setback after another: failed job applications, driving for a ride-hailing service to make ends meet, and getting scammed while trying to make short videos. The pressures of a midlife crisis and everyday life pushed him to the brink of collapse. By chance, he picked up World of Warcraft again, a game he had played in college. On the Classic server, he created a character named “Rise Again” and reunited with his old classmate Zhao Lei, whose in-game name was “Mad Sword.” Together, they formed a team and set off on their dungeon adventures.

From Elwynn Forest to Icecrown Citadel, Tang Xuanzhang gradually regains his confidence through precise gameplay and a gift for command, and his streaming career unexpectedly takes off. He makes new friends in the game and rekindles old bonds. Through teamwork in the virtual world, he also comes to understand what matters in life. In the end, he not only turns his finances around through game streaming, but also transforms from an “unemployed middle-aged man” into a “top-tier star of gaming,” buoyed by his family’s support and the warmth of the player community. His story proves that passion and perseverance can light the way to a new life, even in desperate times.
