Synopsis of A Heartbeat Across Ten Years

In 2023, independent illustrator Lin Wan unexpectedly comes across a mysterious diary that lets her communicate across time with Su Chen, a high school senior from 2013. Despite the ten-year gap, they share their troubles and find common ground in their interests. Su Chen falls for this “older sister from the future” and makes a promise to meet her beneath a cherry tree ten years later. Lin Wan is moved, but the gulf between their times keeps her from making a promise. On the eve of their planned meeting, their correspondence suddenly stops. Su Chen waits beneath the cherry tree until late at night, while Lin Wan is overcome by an inexplicable sadness.

Over the next ten years, Su Chen holds on to their promise as he grows into an up-and-coming architectural designer, never giving up the search. Lin Wan buries the strange experience in her past. Her career takes off, but the feelings in her heart refuse to fade. In 2023, the cherry blossom festival brings them close several times. They eventually meet through work and become attracted to each other, without realizing who the other really is.

It is only when the diary’s writing unexpectedly reappears that Lin Wan follows the clues and confirms that Su Chen is the boy from back then. At last, she brings a key photograph and the diary to meet Su Chen beneath the cherry tree. Her confession, ten years late, finally reaches him. Faced with real-life obstacles, including opposition from Su Chen’s family and interference from an ex, they face everything together. Su Chen steadfastly protects their love, while Lin Wan earns respect through her talent, and eventually wins over his family. After marriage, they make up for the ten lost years in their everyday life. Lin Wan even turns their story into a picture book, making their love across time a warm glimmer in the river of time.
