Synopsis of The Legend of Hua Mulan
During the Northern Wei dynasty, the frontier is under attack and Hua Mulan’s father is too old to serve. She resolutely casts off her finery, dons armor, and enlists in his place.
The story follows her twelve years in the army, portraying both the harsh realities of war: charging with a spear through swirling sandstorms and studying military strategy in a tent on a freezing night; and her inner struggle, as her identity as a woman collides with her role as a soldier, her longing for home clashes with her determination to defend her country.
From her awkward first days in camp, to becoming a valiant warrior admired by her comrades, and finally returning home with quiet grace after achieving success, Hua Mulan breaks through gender barriers with her actions. Set against the weight of history, the narrative is infused with delicate emotion, transforming the legend of “enlisting in her father’s place” into a moving epic of a woman upholding filial devotion and shouldering responsibility in a time of turmoil.
Good book, good to listen to, good to read, great.
What smelly thing is Zhang Kui doing? Hua Mulan must take a screenshot.
