When Shen Yichu was twelve, she went to the Song family’s house to see Song Shi’an. That was the first time she met Song Jinnian, who was fifteen that year.
The boy was slender and tall, with exquisite features. He was so handsome, yet his brows were tightly furrowed.
Her mother told her he was Old Master Song’s illegitimate son. His mother was seriously ill and had to leave him with the Song family. Old Master Song and Old Madam Song were arguing at home, so her mother took Song Jinnian and Song Shi’an back with them.
Shen Yichu walked over to Song Jinnian, who stood to one side looking wary, and offered him a piece of cake. “Big brother, why don’t you come over to my house to play more often?”
Song Jinnian didn’t learn who his father was until he was fifteen. But he didn’t like the man, because he had driven his mother and that kind, gentle aunt into such a relationship.
He didn’t want to go back. He and his mother had been happy together, but she threatened him with her life, leaving him no choice.
The day he arrived at the Song family’s home was chaotic. His so-called father and the man’s wife were arguing, and he couldn’t stand it. He didn’t want to stay there.
That was when Shen Yichu and her mother took him away. Shen Yichu even gave him a piece of cake, the first kindness he had received in that expensive villa district.
At twenty-three, on the very first day after Shen Yichu returned from studying in England, she ended up sharing a room with Song Jinnian.
The next day, Shen Yichu said without a hint of embarrassment, “Uncle, since things have already gone this far, why don’t we just go along with it? I know you don’t like me. We can keep it physical and leave feelings out of it!”
Song Jinnian gave her a meaningful look, then simply nodded.
