He Demoted His Wife to a Concubine Without Knowing Who She Was, and Now He Regrets It

On her wedding day, Xu Qingshan planned to demote his wife to concubine and marry Song Anran, the daughter of the Minister of Works. It wasn't until the wedding ceremony that Chu Sidai learned the top scholar's household was taking both a wife and a concubine that day, and she was the concubine. She yanked off her veil. “I'm not doing this!” “You're the daughter of a merchant. Giving you the status of a favored concubine is already a step up for you.” Chu Sidai didn't cry or make a scene. Instead, she struck back from the brink. She was of noble birth, yet had humbled herself and hidden away in an obscure town for years to help him. Now that he'd passed the imperial exams, he had forgotten his promise to love only her for a lifetime. Then he had only himself to blame. She would take back everything she had once given him, and from now on, anyone who disobeyed her would be thrown out of the manor. “Xu Qingshan, let's divorce!” Xu Qingshan flew into a rage. “How can you be so jealous? Isn't it normal for a man to have three wives and four concubines?” Her mother-in-law spoke up. “The Xu household only allows repudiation, not divorce.” When the emperor ordered that the princess be brought back to the palace, Xu Qingshan finally learned that the merchant's daughter he had loved for years, the woman who had served him for years, was of such exalted status. “Sidai, please, don't leave me. I was wrong. I swear, from now on, you'll be the only one. I've always loved you.” Chu Sidai looked at him coldly. “You broke your vows. You're selfish and deceitful. From this day on, the Xu household will cease to exist, and as for you, let me think about how to deal with you.” On the day Chu Sidai was appointed Crown Princess, he regretted everything bitterly. The past was gone forever.
