On the apocalyptic wasteland of Spirit Cage, humanity's last survivors huddle inside the floating Lighthouse, struggling to survive beneath the shadow of monsters.

Lin Fan, an ordinary office worker, transmigrates there by accident and becomes a lowly assistant at the Lighthouse research institute. When the Black Technology System activates in his mind, he is destined to kindle a flame called "technology" in this despairing world.

He has no mighty physique, only a pair of hands skilled at creation. Faced with a terrifying surface overrun by Polar Devourers, he uses the System's blueprints as a guide and builds his first masterpiece from brass and steam: the "Pioneer" unmanned reconnaissance aircraft. During a dangerous tunnel-survey mission, this seemingly fragile mechanical bird deftly weaves through the darkness. At the cost of its own destruction, it narrowly outmaneuvers the Polar Devourers and sends the Hunters squad the monsters' fatal weakness.

This dazzling performance earns him the trust and support of his aloof superior, Dr. Jiali, as well as the precious resources he needs to realize a grander vision. Lin Fan's goal has never been to build a mere reconnaissance drone. His sights are set on the giant monsters rampaging across the land. To fight monsters, he must create even more powerful "iron behemoths."

From steam cores to energy matrices, from exoskeleton armor to giant mechs towering as high as mountains, Lin Fan's workshop will become a forge of hope for humanity's counterattack. His ultimate dream is to break free from this planet's gravitational prison and build humanity an impenetrable space fortress in the depths of the universe, reclaiming the future of civilization once and for all.
