From the Start, I Have a Tender Catgirl

System: "I have a book on the Golden Body of Merit and a book on the Great Demon Heavenly God. Which one do you want?"

Chen Chi: "What's the difference between them?"

System: "Choose the first, and you'll walk the path of merit and cultivate the Golden Body of Merit. Choose the second, and you'll become an evil god and cultivate the Heavenly Demon God Venerable's body."

Chen Chi: "So how exactly do I do that?"

System: "To cultivate the Golden Body of Merit, you have to kill evil cultivators. To cultivate the Great Demon Heavenly Body, you have to kill righteous cultivators."

"For every evil cultivator you kill, Merit +1."

Chen Chi: "But I think cultivating just one of them would be too slow. Can I choose both?"

System: ...

Years later.

Whenever evil cultivators gather the materials needed for a summoning and call forth an extraterrestrial demon, planning to slaughter everyone, they always see the evil god they summoned glowing all over with golden light of merit.

The evil cultivators: "You kill your fellow cultivators to cultivate the Golden Body of Merit, is that it?!"

Chen Chi: "Whenever an evil cultivator summons me, I go over and kill him, so my Merit goes up by 1."

"While I'm at it, I kill the righteous cultivators that the evil cultivator wanted me to deal with, so my Great Demon Heavenly Body progress goes up by 1 too."

The righteous want to kill me. As an evil cultivator, that means I'm doing the right thing.

The evil path wants to kill me. As a righteous cultivator, that means I'm doing the right thing.

Both the righteous and the evil cultivators want me dead. That proves all the more that I'm on an exceedingly bright path.
