[Competitive sports + fiery swimming + surfing + urban romance + fallen prodigy]
Jiang Pi stared at the ripples in the pool as if he were watching his own life sink to the bottom.
Three years ago, he was a rising star in swimming. Then, just before the national championships, he “accidentally” injured his shoulder. Now he does odd jobs for the provincial team, watching others ride the waves while his own world has become stagnant water.
Then Su Yang burst into the training center like a bolt of lightning.
This returning athlete, flown in from overseas, had a wild edge in the water. She could press down the spray into a clean line on her turns, and slice through the surface like an arrow on the sprint. Her “Wave-Cutting Style” broke resistance apart.
That day, she barged into his lane, splashing water onto his shoes. “I heard you used to be the ‘River Dolphin’?” Su Yang wiped her face, water clinging to her lashes. “Afraid of water now?”
Jiang Pi thought she was just cocky. He never expected her to toss him a video at the training center late one night. It revealed the truth behind his injury, with hard evidence that someone had sabotaged him.
“Want to win?” Su Yang leaped into the pool and carved a clean line through the water. “Come with me and cut through every wave that's been holding you down.”
Later, the provincial team pool gained a new sight: the once-gifted swimmer was back in the water under her “devilish training,” every stroke driven by the desperation of someone with nothing left to lose. And from him, Su Yang rediscovered the grit to charge ahead, no matter how big the waves.
At the starting blocks of the national championships, the flashes were blinding. Jiang Pi heard Su Yang's words, soft but sharp: “No matter how big the waves are, they're ours to cut through.”
