Notes on the Diamond Sutra

The Record of Analyzing the Diamond Sutra decodes the wisdom of the Diamond Sutra from a unique perspective. The dialogue between the Buddha and Subhuti forms the story’s hidden thread. As the thirty-two chapters unfold, the practitioner, “I,” enters this world of prajna.

“I” was once trapped by an attachment to the notion of self, struggling amid worldly troubles. After encountering a glimmer of wisdom in the sutra, I followed the dialogue between the Buddha and Subhuti in search of understanding. From “diamond” as a metaphor for wisdom that shatters attachments, to “paramita” as a guide across the shore of practice, I witnessed the freedom of giving without clinging to appearances and came to understand the dialectical wisdom that transcends dualities.

Each chapter’s interpretation is a clash between “I” and my attachments. In deconstructing the “marks of phenomena,” I let go of fixed assumptions about things. Through phrases such as “is not” and “is named,” I broke free from the constraints of words and the mind’s perceptions. Along this path of practice, “I” gradually awakened, using the sutra’s wisdom to perceive the true nature of emptiness. From confusion on this shore of birth and death, I moved toward the clarity of the far shore of nirvana, completing a transformation and being reborn in spirit.
