365 Days Trapped in Another World

This novel is a creative adaptation of a collection of short stories based on many real dreams. There is no male or female lead here. Each reader's first-person perspective is the protagonist of the book. … This dream was like a waterlogged sponge: squeeze it, and all you got was a damp, chilling confusion. Familiar faces and familiar words twisted inside an unfamiliar framework, like looking at life through frosted glass. The outlines were still there, yet everything felt wrong. A tree bearing human faces concealed a cycle of sacrifice and rebirth, and “I” shared a face with an old woman. On our journey through the misty ruins, as a red thread wound around our wrists, dream and reality began to mesh. The water tasted strange, and no amount of filtering could remove the grime. The rain never seemed to stop. Only when Zhang Ma poured milk into the river did we realize: perhaps what we had been drinking was the poison they couldn't be bothered with?
