Blazing Sun, Scorching Snow

Their reunion on the military training grounds rekindled the love that had come to nothing three years earlier.

When the strict, celibate instructor Lu pressed Su Qingci, the music department’s campus beauty, against the door of the equipment room, his words, “Pretending you don’t know me?” cracked the calm facade like a clap of thunder. The whole university became an audience to their tangled love and hate. He used extra training as an excuse to keep her by his side, shut down every rival in the most domineering way, and even declared in front of everyone, “I’m the only one who gets to teach her the moves.”

Watching her friend get pulled back and forth by Lu Zhengnian, Xia Xingmian was frantic. “His fiancée even brought a check to humiliate you, and you still trust him?”

Su Qingci gripped her phone, her fingertips turning white around the text she had received three years ago: “You don’t deserve to be Mrs. Lu.” She couldn’t understand why the man covered his deep feelings with cutting words while letting Bai Ruoxi close in on her step by step.

It wasn’t until a stormy night, when Lu Zhengnian, drenched from head to toe, stopped her outside the dormitory and tremblingly pressed a yellowed medical record into her hands, that the truth came out. Lightning illuminated the bloodshot red in his eyes as his long-delayed explanation finally burst from his throat. “Qingci, I left you back then because my mother used her kidney failure to force me…”

In the end, the blazing sun melted the winter snow. But on the road to rekindling their romance, there was more than the truth that had come too late: there was also the power of Bai Ruoxi’s family, and the wounds that had already scabbed over during the years frozen by lies. Once every disguise was torn away, could an obsessive love withstand the blade of reality? Could this confession, three years too late, bring the ones who had lost each other back together?
