Sixty Cycles of Spring and Autumn: Fortune from Ancient Texts to All Living Beings

A volume of The Guide to Qi and Fortune, and a spring of pain that comes once every sixty years. Through them, the young Zhang Yuxuan glimpses the “rhythms of Heaven’s seasons” that govern health and well-being: the Five Phases and Six Qi. Starting with a cup of liver-soothing tea, he spends sixty years seeking to turn the profound secrets of Heaven into a force that protects all living beings. Solving the troubles of Heaven’s seasons: He uses the Five Phases and Six Qi, including the governing qi of the year and the host and guest qi, as keys to decipher how the patterns of fortune are inscribed upon the body, revealing the seasonal forces behind ailments such as bone pain from damp earth in the Yi Chou year and mouth ulcers from ministerial fire in the Bing Yin year. Following Heaven’s way: Knowing the seasons, he adjusts human life accordingly. Pear paste to moisten dryness in the autumn of the Geng Wu year, guided exercises to dispel wind in the Ren Shen year, lamb soup to warm the cold in the Gui Chou year... Ancient wisdom becomes everyday protection through tea, food, acupoints, and exercises. Laying the foundations of a better world: His place of practice is among the bustle of everyday life. From neighbors’ heated brick beds to community squares, he connects online with hospitals and canteens. Sharing knowledge and helping one another, people kindle a flame of health and well-being, with the community as their fortress, mutual aid as their bond, and ancient wisdom as their shield. Over sixty years, Zhang Yuxuan transforms from apprentice into the “Guardian of the Fortune Flame.” He studies the “flowing months” and “host and guest qi” to discern subtle mysteries, revitalizes ancient methods by combining them with new knowledge, and makes them accessible to the vulnerable. He witnesses firsthand how profound wisdom leaves the pages of dusty old books, enters the streets and alleys, and becomes an eternal flame protecting countless homes. The Sixty Springs and Autumns is: An epic of life measured in sixty-year cycles: an individual awakens, grows, and serves the world amid the vast currents of fortune. The practice of Eastern wisdom: Deciphering the “secrets of Heaven” into “human endeavor,” and living by the principle, “Know the seasons, do your utmost, and protect health and well-being.” A legend of passing on health wisdom: The torch of ancient knowledge takes root in the community, lighting the everyday lives of all.
