I’m the Jungle King’s Daddy in This Esports Variety Show

“On the night she won the championship, a hater doused her in paint. Lin Ye flipped off the livestream camera, and the whole internet called her ‘the most classless champion.’ Her former teammates piled on, saying she was ‘so bad she only made the team through connections.’ Three years later, wearing a baseball cap, she sneaks onto the esports variety show Jungle King, Take Your Place. In the very first game, she takes down a pro jungler solo. In the second, she fights three opponents in the mid lane while playing and grumbling: ‘This movement is slower than the old man who takes walks downstairs from my place.’ Then the wind blows her cap off, and the comments explode like fireworks: ‘How is she a noob? She’s the Jungle King who led Wildfire to the championship!’ Even better, the sharp-tongued guest Chu Heng criticizes her to her face, saying, ‘Your mechanics look like a kid from the beginner village,’ then secretly turns his tactical breakdowns of her games into Excel spreadsheets. It turns out he was the coach who got fired for protecting her back then!

Just how wild is the ‘mysterious cap-wearing player’ on the esports show? From the start, she steals a pro player’s blue buff and has the nerve to say, ‘Your jungle’s too overgrown. I’m helping you clear it out.’ Sharp-tongued tech geek Chu Heng pushes up his glasses. ‘You’re so bad, you should just leave the show.’ But the next second, the camera catches his phone screen. His chat notes are full of things like ‘Lin Ye’s favorite drink is mango pomelo sago,’ ‘She always takes Red Buff with her jungler’s knife,’ and ‘She cried for half an hour the day she got splashed with paint three years ago.’ When Lin Ye takes off her cap and reveals who she is, his ears turn red. ‘I… I just wanted to study the mind of a player who gives up.’”
