The Huai Mansion’s Wailing Souls

Synopsis of The Haunted House’s Lament Shen Yanbin, a metaphysics enthusiast born in the mid-1970s, graduated from a prestigious university but was fascinated by the tales of ghosts and spirits in ancient books. One rainy night, as he pored over a rare book at his computer, freshly brewed coffee splashed across the keyboard. Sparks flew in an instant, electricity coursed through his body, and he collapsed. When he opened his eyes again, a mist-shrouded ancient forest swallowed him up. His phone had no signal, and he was dressed in a plain scholar’s robe: he had transmigrated. Following a faint light, he stumbled upon a dilapidated old mansion. A woman in red stood by the railing, breathtakingly beautiful. “May I ask, miss, where am I?” he asked with a bow. The woman looked back, a strange glint in her eyes. “I am Su Manniang. I’ve lived here for several hundred years, and never before has an outsider set foot here.” Shen Yanqiu’s heart tightened, but he was trapped by her offer to stay: “It’s late, and there’s no way down the mountain.” Afterward, he discovers that Su Manniang is a ghost in red, yet the two unexpectedly reach an understanding: she uses her thousand-year ghostly power to help him spot business opportunities in ancient times, while he finds her a place to settle. With modern knowledge and her secret assistance, Shen Yanqiu quickly amasses a fortune in this nameless dynasty and becomes a tycoon of great wealth. A grand mansion replaces the shabby old house, but piles of gold and silver cannot dispel Shen Yanqiu’s fear. He begins hiring Taoist priests at great expense and setting up formations, even secretly building a sealed chamber to trap ghosts. The ghost who once helped him grow rich has become, in his eyes, a “filthy thing” he must be rid of. When Su Manniang detects the murderous intent beneath his smile, a century of companionship and trust is about to collapse in a sea of blood... The ending is perfect. If you want to read it, enjoy!
