Where does a story go when it is on the verge of dying?
Does it vanish into nothingness, or get recorded in an endless library?
Lin Jue, a down-and-out novelist whose own life's story is reaching its end, is unexpectedly "hired" as a "Reader" at the Silent Archive.
This library does not collect epic tales of heroes who achieved greatness. It houses only "fragment worlds" that have collapsed under the weight of conflict, paradox, or despair.
From a cyberpunk metropolis trapped in an eternal one-day loop, to an age of declining magic where the gods go mad after losing all their followers; from a magic academy where logic has been completely overturned, to an interstellar federation that destroys itself because it cannot understand "lies"...
The Readers' task is not to fight monsters and level up, nor to plunder resources. Like the finest editors, they must find the "core contradiction" that has made an entire world's "storyline" fall apart, then "proofread" it back into place.
What they gain is not power points, but "narrative abilities": [Foreshadowing], [Reversal], [Dramatic Irony], [Narrative Concealment]...
Lin Jue discovers that his understanding of story structure and insight into human contradictions have become his most powerful weapons here.
His task is to write a new ending that allows these doomed worlds to endure.
Yet he soon realizes that the hardest thing to proofread may be each Reader's own life, already full of wounds...
