After Seven Years of Collecting Corpses to Change My Son's Background, I Discover My Husband Is Royalty

I spent five years carrying corpses off the battlefield, finally earning enough military merit to free my son from hereditary military service. I raced home day and night, eager to tell him he’d be eligible to sit the imperial examinations. But through a door left slightly ajar, I saw the magistrate kneeling in a deep bow before my frail, sickly husband. “Miss Yun has earned enough military merit. Does Your Highness still intend to raise the required amount?” Xiao Jingyi tended his flowers without looking up. “Have her carry another two hundred corpses. I am the Prince of Zhenyuan, after all. What if she covets power one day? We need to get a good measure of her character.” My son, Xiao Liuchen, shook his head. “She’s already carried over a thousand corpses. She’s used to it by now. I doubt it’ll tell us anything.” “Why not forge a military draft for Father instead? If she’d even kill enemies in your place, that would prove she truly loves you. Then I’ll reluctantly accept her as my mother.” If it was such a struggle, he didn’t have to accept me at all. I threw away the cherry pastries I’d saved up for by scrimping and saving, and exchanged all my military merit for silver. Three thousand li of mountains and rivers beyond the frontier. I could spend the rest of my life exploring them.
