Notes on My Encounters with the Supernatural: Folk Horror Tales I Experienced

[Shh! Don’t make a sound... Open this notebook, and you’ll hear them] I grew up listening to the village elders tell old stories, and thought mountain spirits, wild monsters, water ghosts, and hanging ghosts were just tales meant to scare children. Then, during summer vacation that year, I returned to our old family home and found this yellowed notebook at the bottom of my grandfather’s long-forgotten trunk... Who is the faceless bride combing her hair at midnight reflected in the mirror? Who has been living beneath the abandoned old well for thirty years, scratching at its walls? In the old forest, where no one can find their way out, I keep feeling that something is imitating my footsteps... The white rice on the altar table turned black overnight. Grandma said a “filthy thing” had come by... This notebook records the strange incidents my grandfather encountered in his youth. *Worse still, once I began reading, those “things” that had lain dormant for so many years seemed to be waking up too. Shadows outside the window, strange noises beneath the bed, wet calls in my dreams... They’ve set their sights on me. Warning: While reading, make sure there’s no one behind you. Above all... don’t let the light fall on your shadow. Some taboos, once broken, can never be undone.
