(Zhigai Qinggan) (Qing Fei De Yi) Synopsis:
The story revolves around three themes set against different social backgrounds, exposing human nature and moral values in everyday life. It unfolds through events recorded in a notebook found inside a message in a bottle that drifted across the ocean. Because of his family's financial hardship, Bai Xiang leaves his hometown in the mountains of Tainan and comes to the city of Taipei. He takes a job at a ladies' club that provides entertainment for women. Through the nature of his work, the story reveals the deep-seated desire for revenge in women, long suppressed by tradition, and their distorted, twisted psychology: they find satisfaction in tormenting handsome men. The second theme describes the values of the wealthy, who come from a different social background. A banker objects to his daughter marrying beneath her station to a bank clerk, while driving the son of a classmate he had helped out of his home. In the end, he becomes a victim of his own beliefs. The third character from a different social background is Zhang Han, a bank clerk. Unable to accept the banker's views, he resigns and leaves the bank. To attain a certain social standing, he turns to the underworld. Seeking revenge and a woman's love, he uses love to rise to the position of gang leader. He then plunders banks by every means at his disposal. At the same time, he faces revenge from two people he loves, as well as retaliation from the underworld, and has no choice but to wander the world anonymously.
Through the different ways each person struggles to survive, the story portrays and examines people in modern society, their values in life, the course of their lives and their eventual decline. It explores how each person defines life's worth, and their views on love, morality, and ethics.
