Chinese judicial authorities have arrested Greiga, the second-in-command of a pirate group operating in the waters around the Strait of Malacca. He was responsible for the Asia-Pacific region and had repeatedly planned the hijacking of Chinese merchant ships, as well as the murders of numerous crew members. To force the Chinese government to release Greiga, the pirates hijack a merchant vessel belonging to a Chinese ocean shipping company and take more than a hundred people aboard hostage.
