Fortune-Telling for Profit: I Turn My Life Around with the I Ching

“Goldman Sachs’ quantum random number generators, Bridgewater’s Monte Carlo simulations: the ‘godlike dice’ that manipulate global stock markets have been beaten by an unemployed programmer eating takeout in an urban village with the I Ching.

Chen Ming turned the changing lines of the Eight Trigrams into code and rebuilt neural networks using the generating and overcoming cycles of the Five Elements.

First, he cracked a game’s rigged ‘miss’ algorithm to make some extra money. Then he exposed a quantitative fund’s ‘stop-loss trap’ and helped retail investors turn the tables.

Until the day Luo Xiu, the god of quantitative finance, sent him an offer: ‘Join me, and you can control randomness across a ten-billion market.’

Chen Ming only sneered and opened his book of hexagrams. When ancient divination meets modern algorithms, this time, he’ll make all the ordinary people toyed with by ‘randomness’ see the rules for what they really are.”

“Perfumer Lin Huan first met Chen Ming at a protest by victims of quantitative trading.

The man crouched in the corner, tapping away on his laptop. He smelled of instant noodles and old books, yet suddenly spoke up:

‘Your losses aren’t random. Someone used an algorithm to set a trap for the market.’

She followed him as he investigated the data and studied the hexagrams, watching him use the Qian hexagram to beat a game’s gacha system and the Li hexagram to decipher futures market fluctuations.

Then they stumbled upon Wall Street’s most secretive ‘Entropy Growth Fund.’ Every rise and fall in its ten billion in capital was controlled by an algorithm called the ‘Number of Fate.’

When Luo Xiu tempted Chen Ming with a billion-dollar annual salary and the promise of ‘absolute randomness,’ Chen Ming slapped a copy of the I Ching down on the table.

‘Algorithms can calculate every rise and fall, but they can’t calculate the human heart.’

This time, he’ll wield the ‘Qianyuan Rules’ as a blade and cut through every shackle of ‘randomness.’”
