A Keen Eye from Humble Beginnings: Trouble at the Pawnshop

Blood spatters across an ancestral jade pendant, and Ye Chen, a poor scholar’s son, opens his eyes to a world he can see through across a thousand years!

To save his dying mother, he pawns a copper lock, only to be humiliated by a crooked pawnbroker. As blood runs from his head, it falls on the jade pendant, transforming it! Suddenly, the very essence of everything in the world is crystal clear to him. At a glance, he sees that a discarded “broken bowl” is a priceless Ding ware treasure from the Song Dynasty. Its hidden “Fenghua” mark leaves everyone stunned! Su Qingya, the heiress to an antiques fortune, authenticates it on the spot and buys the lock for fifty silver dollars. Her casual invitation, “Come by whenever you like,” opens the door to a new life for the desperate young man.

A discerning eye for treasures and the hands of a miracle doctor! The jade pendant grants him two extraordinary gifts: his left eye can identify genuine antiques, expose fakes, and unlock memories spanning a thousand years; his right pupil can recognize medicines by scent and use golden needles to save lives and decide who lives or dies! He finds bargains in the ghost market, risks his life tasting poison, and spots fakes with his bare hands. His eyes are sharp as a torch; his miraculous treatments save wealthy merchants, while his golden needles extract a warlord’s bullet from inside his skull. His reputation as a miracle doctor shakes Beiping!

But in this turbulent age, treasures attract wolves from every side! The pawnbroker turns out to be “Night Owl,” a Japanese spy in league with the Japanese invaders. He poisons the people, counterfeits national treasures, and plots murder at an appraisal gathering! A thousand-year-old ginseng becomes a deadly trap. Su Qingya is shot while saving Ye Chen’s mother and lies near death!

Ye Chen cuts his wrist and offers his blood to the jade pendant, exchanging his life for hers! Amid swirling green mist, her heartbeat returns, but she wakes with no memory. “Who are you?” Night Owl screams in desperation, “The jade pendant belongs to the Empire!” And amid the pool of blood, a map of the Kunlun snow peaks appears!

From a poor outcast kneeling to beg for medicine to an antiques expert and miracle doctor treating the wealthy; from a man trampled by everyone to one for whom a warlord’s daughter kneels with a gun in hand! Ye Chen wields golden needles in his left hand to save the people, and in his right, a discerning eye to destroy traitors. In this war-torn age, demons and monsters run rampant. He will turn his bloodstained eyes into a blade, protect those he loves, cut down the wicked, reclaim the national treasures, and carve out a bloody path to the top!
