When retrieving the scriptures becomes returning them, the road home is a dead end!
In the thirteenth year of the Zhenguan era of the Tang dynasty, Master Xuanzang was preaching the scriptures in Chang'an when Heaven suddenly sent an envoy to demand their return. Could the truth won through a 108,000-li journey west really become a bargaining chip in a power struggle?
To keep the scriptures out of the hands of the powerful, Tang Sanzang is forced to set out on a “scripture-returning” journey with Wukong, Bajie, and Shaseng. But this is no road home:
Bajie is appointed “River of Heaven Water Goddess Consort,” and Gao Village becomes bait for Heaven;
To protect his family, Shaseng becomes a guide for the pursuing forces;
The White Dragon Horse tearfully bids farewell to its companions, as the Dragon Clan trades it for Heaven’s pardon;
And the moment Wukong swaps out the scriptures, all three realms erupt in chaos!

Five hundred years later, beneath Five Elements Mountain, the stone monkey gazes toward Chang'an and suddenly grins.
