The Yoke of Fire: Moses and the Ten Commandments' Shattered Tablets

When God's fiery yoke is branded onto the backs of mortals,

freedom becomes the heaviest of commandments.

Amid the decree to drown the newborns in the Nile, Moses, son of a Hebrew slave, was raised as an Egyptian prince. Forty years later, he fled into the wilderness for a blood crime, until the burning bush tore open his soul. God burned away his identity in his mother tongue: "Go, break Pharaoh's scepter!"

The Ten Plagues washed Egypt in blood, and the Red Sea's white bones paved the road to freedom.

But when three million people knelt before a golden calf,

he smashed the tablets he had received with his own hands:

"If the law is not a yoke, freedom will become tyranny!"

For forty years they wandered the wilderness. Manna fell from heaven, yet could not sate their greed. Living water flowed from the rock, yet could not cleanse their betrayal. When Joshua's sword was sharpened for the law, the aged Moses stood at the edge of the Promised Land and heard God's final judgment:

"You kindled the flame, but you shall never enter the light."

The fire on Mount Sinai still burns,

and in the cracks of the shattered tablets,

the struggle between humanity and God

has only just begun...
