In the Spiritbound Realm, humans, demons, and magical beasts developed unique civilizations in their own domains. In time, god-tier powerhouses emerged, capable of moving mountains and filling seas, erasing space and time, and controlling reincarnation. As seas turned to fields and stars shifted in the heavens, conflicts among the four great races continued to escalate. Their god-tier powerhouses launched a war over the realms that lasted a thousand years. They unleashed one devastating technique after another, and chaotic storms of space and time ravaged the Spiritbound Realm. Rivers and seas flowed backward, mountains crumbled, and magma burst from the earth’s veins, nearly covering the entire plain. Countless lives were lost in this unprecedented catastrophe. The strongest fell one after another, and the ancient battlefield was already strewn with corpses.
The ancient great powers regretted their actions bitterly. The surviving god-tier powerhouses joined forces to repair the Spiritbound Realm, but they perished from exhaustion just as they succeeded. The Spiritbound Realm is no longer one whole continent. Instead, enormous geographical barriers, including the Sighing Mountains, the Godfall Abyss, and the Shadow Rift, divide it into several relatively independent and stable regions: the Ninefold Continents, the Radiant Wilderness, the Evernight Icefield, and the Lifeless Ashen Domain. The descendants of the four great races have since been able to multiply and thrive.
Time passed, and conflict rose again. Wu Nai was born in the Great Zhou Dynasty, in the eastern part of the Ninefold Continents. Ordered to travel far to the frontier and take up the post of county magistrate in Anxi County, he had no idea he was already caught in a vortex of competing factions.
