A Space in a Parallel World

I travel through countless worlds as a “Fruit Taster,” gaining power by devouring the fruits of worlds. The organization says she is a “World Seed,” and the blood-red fruit that gathers at her fingertips can save withering space-times. “Eat it,” they order me. “The price is her life.” Through the agony, I glimpse fragments of her memories, of her holding me close. > When the countdown reaches zero, she smiles and bares her neck to the blade. “This time, let me save you.” I smash the life-support pod. The blood fruit burns in my palm. “Who made these rules? I’ll change them!”
