The Retired King of Hell Works as a Security Guard in My Apartment Complex

After a thousand years in charge of the Underworld, Yan Luo was forced into retirement for “failing to meet his performance targets.” Under the alias Lao Zhou, he became a security guard at a residential complex in the human world.

He had hoped to take it easy, but soon discovered that the complex was home to all sorts of spirits and monsters: a fox demon at the delivery station, an Earth Goddess leading the square-dancing group, and a rich man who had outlived his allotted years by using dark magic and was causing trouble around the complex.

Forced to return to his old line of work, Lao Zhou uses the Underworld’s rules to restore order in the human world, while also resolving disputes between residents. The despised “weird old man” soon becomes the “guardian deity” everyone depends on.

Absolute rules cannot warm a life, and absolute emotion can overturn order. True protection means preserving warmth within order and upholding boundaries through understanding.
