Starcore Blade and the Cat-Tail Bell

Beneath the rust-colored sky of Iron City, the mecha-girl tournament's cage is always alight with excitement.

Yong Xiaoqi is the most eye-catching competitor in the arena. Silver-white hair frames her cat ears, and the bell at the tip of her tail chimes softly with every swing of her blade. Starcore energy flows through her palm, bathing even her blade in an icy blue glow. But no one knows the secret hidden inside her powerful mechanical body: too much exposure to raw Starcore ore can briefly turn her into a clingy, innocent little beast.

Lin Che is her one weakness. This grease-scented mechanic can hammer scrap metal into the perfectly balanced Tang sword, Frostflow. He patiently smooths her ruffled tail when she transforms, and knows just how to turn the tables when Purple Shadow's poisoned blades corner her: one precise, “Dodge!”

From repairing mecha side by side to risking their lives for each other inside and outside the cage, from bickering over Starcore fish treats to fingertips lingering too long while applying medicine, the line between friendship and something more blurs with every encounter. When Lin Che awkwardly tests out his “how to flirt” manual, and Yong Xiaoqi blushes as she warns him, “Don't get any ideas,” the wind carrying rust and Starcore can no longer hide the heartbeat burning hotter than any blade.

This is a story about mecha, Starcore, and the bonds between them. Their blades conceal a promise of protection, the bell on her catlike tail chimes with affection, and together they will carve a path of their own through the ruins of Iron City.
