Little-Known Things of the Mountain Countryside: The Four Seasons by Linxi Creek

【Completed】 Tired of the clamor of the city’s relentless machinery, Shen Zhiwei quit her glamorous job in the last days of winter, just before the New Year. With her savings and a bone-deep weariness, she returned to her hometown, Linxi Village, nestled among the mountains of Shu. She pushed open the creaking wooden door of the old house and resolved to use her camera to capture a different kind of life: restoring her dusty ancestral home with her own hands, following the changing seasons, and seeking out the flavors of the countryside. Fish mint beneath the winter mud banks, shepherd’s purse and Qingming rice cakes along the fields in spring, raspberries and wild sweet potatoes in the height of summer, golden roxburgh roses and bursting eight-month melons in the trees of late autumn... Through her lens, the rich taste of fermented tofu, the crisp tang of pickled greens, and the sun-soaked days in fermented black beans became comforting poems of everyday life. Here, she reunited with Lin Ye. The quiet, reserved boy she remembered had grown into a steady, dependable man. An orphan from the village, he had been raised by kind old folks. He cared for his grandparents and poured his knowledge and sweat into the land beneath his feet, becoming a low-key, practical eco-farm owner. He quietly repaired her leaking roof and brought her dried firewood. She secretly filmed his sturdy figure working in the fields and documented how his farm operated as a closed loop. Time passed quietly amid the fragrance of fish mint, the fermenting tofu, and the bright red raspberries. Shen Zhiwei’s videos gradually attracted millions of followers, while Lin Ye’s farm became a model for rural revitalization. There were no grand declarations of love, only the warm ginger tea he brought her beneath the eaves and the bamboo strips he used to mend her fence in the morning light. The changing seasons bore witness to the unspoken way they drew closer. In the end, they chose to work side by side and put down deep roots for their dreams in this land.
