After an accident, the mysterious Lu Nian takes her back to his residence. Her indenture becomes her shackles, while a lie about a “deal with the Japanese” unexpectedly leads to a shocking secret about arms smuggling. In the chess game of a turbulent age, she and the unfathomable Lu Nian go from testing one another to keeping each other in check. A silver lock holds clues to her birth mother's death, while the flash of gunfire reflects the struggle between country and family, and personal feelings. As the layers of conspiracy are peeled away, she finally understands: “Qing Nian” is not only the intertwining of their names, but also a life-and-death bond of mutual dependence in these turbulent times.
