Synopsis

"Wild Grass" is a collection of prose poems written by Mr. Lu Xun between September 1924 and April 1926. It contains a total of 23 works (including inscriptions). This work was born after the decline of the May Fourth New Culture Movement in Beijing under the rule of the Beiyang warlords. It is a profound portrayal of Lu Xun's inner world and spiritual exploration in a specific historical period. Different from Lu Xun's other socially oriented and militant essays and novels, "Weeds" presents a more profound, complex, and introspective artistic quality. Lu Xun used concise, surprising, and symbolic poetic language to construct a spiritual world full of contradictions, pain, hesitation, and perseverance. Among them are sharp revelations of dark realities and desperate struggles (such as "Revenge" and "Such a Warrior"), as well as lonely chewing and philosophical contemplation of the existential dilemmas of individual lives (such as "Farewell of the Shadow", "Dead Fire", "The Passenger"), and there is no lack of grim analysis of the chronic diseases of the national soul (such as "The Wise Man, the Fool and the Slave", "The Argument"). The extensive use of dreams, hallucinations, symbols and metaphors (such as "hell", "wasteland", "weeds", "jujube trees" and other images) makes the text extremely modern, avant-garde and ambiguous.
