Synopsis

"Hot Wind" is the first collection of essays by the modern literary giant Lu Xun. The first edition was published by Beijing Beixin Book Company in November 1925. This collection contains 41 short comments and reflections written by Mr. Lu Xun between 1918 and 1924, mainly published in newspapers such as "New Youth". These include the famous "Reflections" series as well as chapters such as "Evaluating Academic Balance", "To Shock Its Difficulty", "So-called "Chinese Studies"", "Against "Tearful" Critics", and "Don't Want to "Correction"". This collection was born during the "May Fourth" New Culture Movement period (1918-1924) when China's ideological enlightenment movement was surging. As the standard-bearer of the New Culture Movement, Mr. Lu Xun devoted himself with great enthusiasm to the great struggle against feudal ideas, advocating scientific democracy, and transforming the national spirit. The name "Hot Wind" contains profound double meanings: first, it symbolizes the author's fiery emotions and sharp words, blowing like a hot warm wind against the fortress of feudal ideas and social ills that imprison people's hearts; Second, it comes from the inscription: "I felt that the air around me was too cold. I said my own words, so I called it "Hot Wind" instead." It reflects the resilience and self-encouragement of insisting on making a fighting voice in a "cold" environment. The core edge of "Hot Wind" directly points to the feudal retro trend of thought, national quintessence, superstition and ignorance, conservative and backward concepts, and various bad tendencies within the New Culture Movement. Mr. Lu Xun, in the form of short, concise, and lethal essays, violently attacked the absurdity of the theory of "preserving the national quintessence", exposed the harm done to young people and children by feudal ethics, denounced the conservative forces in society, foolish words and deeds, and "gregarious patriotic arrogance", and made timely and profound criticism of the shallowness, impetuousness, and hypocrisy that appeared in the New Culture Camp.
