After Being Mortified a Thousand Times, the Big Shot Fell for Me

My best friend set me up on a blind date with Pei Shang, an icy investment banker. To ruin the date, I gazed lovingly at a photo of fried chicken on my phone and called out, “Be good, son. Mommy will be home after work!” The moment I hit send, a cool male voice came from behind me: “Miss Lu, your son… is a piece of fried chicken?” I stiffly turned around and saw Pei Shang holding up a photo of the exact same fried chicken. “What a coincidence. My daughter’s rebellious too.” And then the restaurant manager suddenly brought out a cake: “Mr. Pei asked us to celebrate your son’s one-month birthday!” I stared at the chocolate plaque that read, “Happy 100th Day, Fried Son,” and nearly blacked out. Pei Shang calmly scanned the code to pay. “The gift money is the father’s responsibility.”
