After This Good-for-Nothing Makes a Comeback, the Whole Capital Begs Her to Carry Them to Victory

Bai Wanting is widely regarded as the “bottom of the barrel” among the noblewomen of the capital. She’s mediocre at music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, knows nothing about managing a household, and can even get the sums wrong when buying flowers.

Then, at a banquet, her talented fiancé, adored by everyone, publicly breaks off their engagement, claiming she’s “not worthy of my future career.”

Everyone expects her to cry and make a fool of herself, but she simply clasps her hands to him. “Thank you for setting me free. May your future be bright, and may you spend your life alone.”

After turning away, she sorts out a ledger riddled with errors, leaving the relatives who want to seize her family’s estate speechless;

She uses a “simple, clumsy method” to improve embroidery patterns, and orders at her family’s workshop start lining up through next year;

She teaches the cook to create new dishes from everyday ingredients, and their little restaurant becomes a top-tier hit in the capital;

Even her calligraphy, mocked as “a reflection of her character,” is pursued by renowned calligraphy masters eager to add it to their collections, simply because her “letter of broken engagement” is so gloriously bold.

Those who once mocked her now line up with gifts, hoping to work with her;

The fiancé who abandoned her now kneels at her door with betrothal gifts. “Wanting, I was wrong.”

Bai Wanting munches on a freshly baked osmanthus cake without even looking up. “Oh? I’m rather busy now. I don’t have time to pick up trash.”

In the corner, Fang Chen, who has quietly helped her carry ingredients and fix her ledgers, chuckles and hands her a cup of hot tea. “Ignore him. Your osmanthus cake is getting cold.”
