Shen Yanqiu's Book of Monster Friends

In ancient times, there was a book called the Compendium of Ten Thousand Demons, which recorded the “true names” of every monster in the world. Whoever possessed it could command them. But the compendium vanished in the late Ming dynasty, leaving the monsters unrestrained and free to wreak havoc among humankind. The protagonist is a “demon painter” who can bring monsters into view with her brush. Her mission is to recreate the compendium, but she discovers that the monsters’ rampage stems from humanity’s destruction of nature.
