One day, Su Xiaoxiao was walking down the street when a sack suddenly dropped from above and snatched her away. The next day, the news reported that a headless woman's body had been found in a filthy ditch. By then, Su Xiaoxiao's soul was floating above a dirty river, pinching her nose and frowning as she watched her own body drift through the murky, stinking water, feeling rather sorry for herself.
Just then, a person dressed in black drifted over and looked at the headless corpse alongside her. Su Xiaoxiao didn't know him, but somehow she knew he was there to take her away.
She had assumed things would go as the books said: cross the Naihe Bridge, go before King Yama to receive her judgment and punishment, then collect a bowl of soup from Meng Po before being reincarnated. But this person just kept talking.
“Don't you want to know who killed you?” the man in black asked.
“What difference would it make if I knew? I'm dead.”
“But surely you have some regrets?”
“I have plenty of regrets. Am I supposed to take care of them all now?”
“You're pretty open-minded.”
“What exactly are you after?” Su Xiaoxiao was getting fed up with his questions.
“Not many people can stay so calm while looking at their own gruesome death.”
“And?”
“How about this? I'll give you a chance to take revenge on your killer.”
“You're up to no good, aren't you? I'd turn into a vengeful ghost if I took revenge. Are you practicing some kind of evil magic?” Su Xiaoxiao narrowed her eyes and looked at the man in black suspiciously.
Her words made the man in black laugh.
“Not bad. You're no fool. I rarely meet ghosts like you. Here's the deal: I'm short-handed, so come work for me. I'll pay you.”
Su Xiaoxiao's eyes lit up. That sounded like a good deal.
