On our wedding anniversary, my CEO wife told me she had to rush to Rwanda for an emergency meeting and couldn’t join me for dinner.
But a moment later, I saw a photo on the social media feed of the new Black intern: my wife, dressed in a couture gown, changing a child’s diaper.
The caption read: “Thanks to the CEO for helping me look after my thirteen younger siblings. She’s more professional than the caregivers at the orphanage we funded.”
I commented in the company group chat: “The company has added a childcare service for special assignments. The CEO is personally on duty, billed by the hour.”
The message immediately set the industry abuzz. Some people even asked, “Could this service be made available first to orphans in our slums?”
In an instant, my wife’s international calls came pouring in. Furious, she snapped, “Did you really have to make us a laughingstock?”
“Allen has an exam! I was just helping out by looking after the kids! Are you really that petty?”
“Delete your comment right now, and I’ll go out with you next time.”
I sneered and hung up.
My divorce papers would be ready soon. Who’d want to go out with you anyway?
