There was never a shortage of fish willing to take the bait in Ruan Mianshuang’s pond.
A campus heartthrob who could turn heads wherever she went, she knew all the “green tea” tricks for luring men in. A single look could leave someone spellbound; a few soft words could make her admirers willingly bow to her. Then she met He Suyue, a man six years older than her who gave off a strong “keep your distance” vibe. His ironclad need for control turned the tables on her.
He was reserved and repressed, yet in private he revealed his ambition to keep her safely in his arms. Rich and handsome, he was especially fixated on her, a “fish” who had always been so adept at slipping away. Ruan Mianshuang had planned to tease him a little before reeling him in, never expecting to be the first one to get caught in the net he had woven.
But there was another unwelcome presence in this tug-of-war: He Suyue’s half brother, He Jiawei. The boy, her age, charged ahead with his passionate love. When he realized his brother’s feelings, he joined the battle with red-rimmed eyes, vowing to snatch her away from him.
At last, Ruan Mianshuang chose He Suyue and thought she could reel him in for good, but an argument threw everything into disarray. Drunk and barely conscious, she mistook He Jiawei, who had come to see her, for his brother. He Suyue happened to walk in on their out-of-control intimacy as he doubled back.
“Ruan Mianshuang, you’re something else.” The warmth in his eyes froze in an instant.
This time, the fish pond was overturned and the net was torn. Ruan Mianshuang, who had always been so good at fishing, panicked. She dropped every pretense and chased after the fish she cared about most, the one she had “scared away,” her eyes red with tears.
But would a heartbroken He Suyue ever take the bait again?
