First Life, Kunlun Mountain. Zilan snuggles up affectionately: “Brother Stone’s immortal dew is so sweet~”
The dark green boulder (Wukong’s previous incarnation), thinking: “That was my late-night pee!”
Second Life, Five Elements Mountain. Zilan cuts her wrist and offers her blood: “Great Sage, have some water!”
The irritable earthen monkey: “Get lost! I can’t stand flowers and weeds!” (Zilan gets so angry she turns into a seed, and Zixia loses her in transit!)
Third Life, Grand View Garden. The Victorious Fighting Buddha is ordered to guide an old acquaintance to enlightenment: “Little girl…”
Lin the sharp-tongued farmer shows up with a hoe: “What kind of monkey are you? You stink like one!”
Wukong is so furious he smashes a jade pendant on the spot (Baoyu: ???), then flees to the Western Heaven in a huff: “Buddha! This flower spirit is harder to beat than a hundred thousand heavenly soldiers!”
A flower’s ill-fated monkey romance: From drinking dew (pee) to burying flowers, their three lives are held together by nothing but sharp retorts!
All the choices, persistence, or giving up of the characters in the book make them more vivid and move me even more. I feel sorry for Zilan, and I am also looking forward to the release of Zixia Fairy and the subsequent plot. I am looking forward to it.
