The Second Great Ninja War rages on in Year 36 of Konoha. Lin Ye, a genin, is widely known as a "burden." He can only refine one-third as much chakra as an ordinary person and cannot even master the basic Clone Technique. Then, during a border mission, Iwa ninjas ambush his team. At the brink of death, the Myriad Worlds Compass deep in his mind finally activates and devises a unique "Hair Clone Technique" for him.

These clones can absorb an enemy's chakra to take shape, then feed power back to Lin Ye, improving his constitution and boosting his strength. From helping a logistics squad break into an Iwa ammunition depot, to crushing ninja beasts in the Forest of Death, to encountering Yahiko and his friends in Amegakure, Lin Ye uses his hair clones to climb step by step into the ranks of Konoha's strongest.

And that's not even mentioning his cross-world resource grabs: absorbing radiation in a wasteland, stealing the Tesseract in Marvel, and comprehending sword intent in a cultivation world. In the end, even the Akatsuki's Pain invasion and the Myriad Worlds' entropy crisis are dealt with by his hair clones
